2018 has ended and I hope that it delivered the goods for you. If you are getting married in 2019 then I'm guessing that you got engaged last year. A big congratulations to you. That is, of course a massive life moment but did 2018 give you anything else that you are grateful for? Perhaps you got a new puppy? Or moved house (or maybe bought your first one)? Did you get promoted? Or maybe change career path to chase your dreams? These are all big milestones that should be celebrated not only when the event happens but also at the end of the year, when you are looking back on the last 12 months.
I always like to look back over the last year as it helps you realise what you have achieved. I don't know about you but life seems to be fairly standard on a day to day basis, with nothing extraordinary happening but if you look back on all those days together then each one has been important and each decision has mattered and you'll be able to clearly see what you have achieved sinch 1st January 2018.
My 2018 was a big year, for a lot of reasons, but the main one was that I founded Daniel Thomas Photography. Yay! I'd had this passion for photography for years but after much consideration I decided to turn my passion into a business and I am loving it...I've never been happier. I'm not making enough to go full time yet, so I've still got my 'day job' but with a lot of hard work and effort I know that one of my next couple of new year blog posts will have the title, somewhere, of 'I've gone full time'. So watch this space.
A big benefit of starting this business was meeting all the amazing people that I met last year, from other wedding photographers to beautiful couples. Everyone was so kind and lovely and we all got on like a house on fire and I will be forever grateful for their support and friendship.
Another big milestone this year came at the end of March when my girlfriend and I got 2 kittens. We called them Briar and Rose and spoil them rotten. Seriously...they have more toys than me. It took a while, but after a couple of months they had us well trained and we now know when they want their food or their bellies rubbed.
Last year I also took a 4 hour flight to Athens. That might not seem like much but 4 hours is the longest I've ever been on a plane. I really enjoyed Athens as I am somewhat of a history geek (this is the reason that I chose it as a destination) but it was very crowded, as you'd expect in the middle of August.
The final BIG achievement for 2018 was that my girlfriend spent Christmas day around my parents (with me of course). Last year we spent Christmas at her parents but having it at mine was special for me as it meant that she could see the family traditions that I've grown up with...although she did complain a lot that we didn't open any presents until 6pm...sorry babe!!
So, 2018 was a big and successful year for me but I know that 2019 will be even better. I have got weddings to photograph, amazing couples to meet and Daniel Thomas Photography has big plan in store. I would love to photograph your wedding if you are getting hitched in 2019 (or 2020) so please get in touch via the contact page on this website if you're looking for a wedding photographer.
I wish you all a happy new year and hope that 2019 brings everything that you wish for...and remember to follow your dreams.
